Introduction to Art

Introduction to Art, I have definitely been impressed by all of you. First, let me say that if you're not used to doing art regularly, learning art in a variety of mediums is already challenging enough. Add in online learning and only having time together once a week to work on art and these students have certainly tried so many new skills at home, experimented with different mediums, and finished a wide range of projects over the course of this semester.

Starry Night Inspired Pastel Landscapes

After learning about the life and work of artist Vincent Van Gogh, students were asked to pick a landscape of their choice, use the pastel techniques that they had learned and practiced and create a landscape that mimicked the style of his famous painting Starry Night.

Graphite Close Ups

Students learned about value and practiced graphite techniques. They were then asked to find or take a picture of something close up and using the grid method, draw and add value to their work of art to replicate the photo.

Complimentary Color Pastel Fruit

A beginning pastel project led to practicing and implementing both their knowledge of the color wheel and pastel techniques to draw fruit of their choice and then pick its complimentary color for a gradient background.

Beyond the Borders Watercolor Project

Combining both their watercolor and ink techniques, students picked an animal or insect that would jump "beyond the borders" of their watercolored section and into their border filled in with ink.
